Last Tuesday, 10/20, The JAMBOX Family Crew and a host of others tore down the house at The Karma Lounge with performances ranging from soulful singing, R&B, rap, hip hop, dance, pop and alternative rock!

The event was a huge success. The place was PACKED, with talent, industry vets, guests supporters.

If you weren't there, you missed out on a good thing, but there's still hope for you. Round two of the contest happens this Tuesday (10/27) same time same station. Whatever you do, DON"T MISS IT!!!

Big ups to Deshai for doing a great job hosting and MC'ing, event. Also wowwing us with her own vocal charms.

Contest Details:

- Contestant sign-up begins 8:30 PM. First come-first served. There is a cut-off point for number of contestants.

- 2 Grand Prize Winners in 2 categories: rap/hip hop & singer/acoustic/other.

- Total Value of Grand Prize: over $500!

- Show starts 9:30PM SHARP. Winner announced by 12:30 AM. (Audience determines finalist winners).

- Must be 21+ with ID.

- 6 minute maximum per contestant. (You can compete in both categories.)

- Cover charge makes you eligible to perform 1 song. Extra charge for extra song.

- If you are a band, sound check is 7:00PM.

- Amps are available. Bring your own instruments/showtape/tracks.

- Call us at JAMBOX and we can prepare your showtape for you. $10 special. (regular $25).

- 2 weeks of preliminaries (10/20 & 10/27). (2 finalists from each category chosen each week.)

- The final 3rd & last week (11/3) will be the Grand Prize Finals. (A panel of judges determines winners.)

Valerie Capers Quintet at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola

Not only is Dr. Valerie Capers a legendary jazz pianist hailing from Harlem, she is also the longtime music teacher and friend to JAMBOX CEO Lee Evans. On September 21, Lee and Cathy brought the JAMBOX Family to see the amazing Dr. Capers perform live with her jazz quintet at Dizzy's Jazz Club Coca-Cola at New York City's Lincoln Center. The performance paid tribute to music giants Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Michael Jackson. It was a touching reunion for Lee and Dr. Capers, who had been his music teacher in both his high school and college years. Included in the band were Lee's colleagues, the great John Robinson on bass, and remarkable sax player Alan Givens. It's striking to see the amount of raw talent that came out of that year in Bronx Community College. Highlites include an inspired drum solo by the great Earl Williams, on Thelonius Monk's, "Round Midnite, and the lighting fast tasty guitar riffs and colorations by guitar wizard Mark Marino. The Valerie Capers Quintet put on a performance to remember.

Suzanne Vega (top left), made popular by her 1987 and heavily-remixed hits, "Tom's Diner" and "Luka" recently came into JAMBOX to record some voiceovers for BBC. Cold Case's Tracie Thoms (bottom left) also recently made an appearance at JAMBOX with songwriter JMC to record the uplifting, philanthropy influenced song, "What If." We are proud and honored to have these two talented and versatile women at JAMBOX Entertainment and we hope they find JAMBOX to be a welcoming community!

"Techno artist "Sexy Technoboy" from "America's Got Talent" was in doing techno music and had his blue bunny in to do bunny vocals. The bunny later scratched him in the face and that was the last we saw of little bunny. Was that a rabbits foot around technoboys neck when he came in next day?

Lori Michaels shot a PSA for the CW11's Care for Kids program, which helps children in the tri-state area through funding, community outreach, and on-air programing. The PSA will run on the CW Channel 11.

Virgin Megastore in Times Square Closing

Despite an annual profit of $6 million, the Times Square Virgin Megastore will close in April. It seems that Related and Vornado, the real estate companies that own the stores, could turn a greater profit by leasing the space to Forever 21 (Virgin pays $54 per square foot in rent while the market value for the area is $700 per square foot). No decision has yet been made over the chain's five remaining stores.
