Chloe X Halle: From YouTuber Duo to Grammy Divas

Welcome to Motivational Monday at JAMBOX studios! Today, I would like to do a shout-out to two inspirational young ladies who wowed everybody at yesterday’s Grammys: Chloe X Halle. Their rendition of “Where is the Love”, a song originally made famous by the legendary Donny Hathaway, was definitely one of the show’s biggest musical highlights for me.

The duo’s journey started on YouTube 10 years ago, when they were uploading various performances at just 8 and 6 years old, respectively. In 2015, they suddenly took the internet by storm with their beautiful cover of BeyoncĂ©’s “Pretty Hurts”, and even Queen B herself took notice. Bey shared the video on her Facebook page and soon had her label, Parkwood Entertainment, reach out to the girls to sign them. Since then, the siblings have been included in the Lemonade visual album alongside superstars like Serena Williams, Zendaya and Amandla Stenberg, and have even joined BeyoncĂ© on her Formation tour. Chloe X Halle released their debut album “The Kids Are Alright” in March 2018 and earned their first two career Grammy nominations for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” and “Best New Artist”. Although they did not win in either category yesterday, they are still winners in my book, and I can’t wait to see where their journey will take them next. Many other inspirational stories unfolded in front of our eyes last night, with underdog Kacey Musgraves winning “Album of the Year” (among others) and Cardi B being the first female solo act to be honored with the Grammy for “Best Rap Album”.

The takeaway should be that if you have a dream, make the first step, no matter how small it seems. You may think that you are not talented enough, that you need more time to polish your craft, you may be waiting for things to fall in place. Yet, nowadays you can get very far with enough determination and willingness to put yourself out there.
